H.J. Khoury Excellence in Research Award

Amer Zeidan, USAAmer Zeidan, MBBS, MHS, is Professor of Internal Medicine (Hematology) at Yale School of Medicine and Chief of the Division of Hematologic Malignancies. At Yale Cancer Center, he directs the Leukemia and Myeloid Malignancies Program and Early Therapeutics Research. His research focuses on developing novel therapies for myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and other myeloid malignancies, including targeted and immunotherapy approaches. He is the founder and chair of the International Consortium for MDS (icMDS) and has led numerous clinical trials that contributed to the approvals of oral decitabine/cedazuridine, luspatercept and imetelstat. He has authored more than 360 peer-reviewed publications.

Christian Cailliot Clinical Research Award

Jaime Sanz Caballer, SpainJaime Sanz is a consultant in the Department of Hematology and Director of the Hematopoietic Cell Transplant and Cellular Therapy Unit at the University Hospital La Fe in Valencia, Spain, and Full Professor of Medicine at the University of Valencia. He trained in hematology at La Fe and completed advanced transplant training at Hammersmith Hospital, London, where he served as Coordinator of Bone Marrow Transplantation. He currently serves as secretary of the EBMT Acute Leukemia Working Party, and previously chaired its Alternative Donors Subcommittee and the GETH Umbilical Cord Blood Transplantation Subcommittee. His research focuses on improving transplant outcomes, including donor selection, conditioning regimens, GVHD prophylaxis and infectious complications. He has authored over 250 peer-reviewed articles.

Rainer Storb Lifetime Achievement Award

Per Ljungman, SwedenPer Ljungman, MD, PhD, is Professor Emeritus of Hematology at Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden, where he previously directed the Department of Hematology and the Department of Cellular Therapy and Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplantation. His research focuses on infections in transplant and hematology patients, particularly cytomegalovirus, other viral infections and vaccination. He was for many years a driving force of the EBMT Infectious Diseases Working Party and helped develop the European Conference on Infections in Leukaemia (ECIL) guidelines. He is a past president of the International Immunocompromised Host Society, a long-time editor of Bone Marrow Transplantation and an honorary member of the EBMT. He received the ICHS Lifetime Achievement Award in 2022.

The H.J. Khoury Excellence in Research Award is named for the late H.J. Khoury, MD, a distinguished hematologist and physician-scientist who made significant contributions to the field of hematology. This lectureship and prize recognize pioneering research achievements in hematology that have represented a paradigm shift or significant discovery in the field.

Christian Cailliot Clinical Research Award

The IACH Committee is proud to present the Christian Cailliot Clinical Research Award. This award supports an innovative project intended in particular to recall the commitment to research in hematology and oncology of Dr. Christian CAILLIOT. This prize must enable researchers in hematology to carry out, continue or complete a research project, in particular in the field of hematopoietic stem cell transplants.

In recognition of pioneering contributions that have transformed the field of stem cell transplantation, the Rainer Storb Lifetime Achievement Award honors those whose groundbreaking achievements have established the cornerstones of modern hematopoietic cell transplantation, cellular therapy, and immunotherapy.
